About

I’m Sophie, an award-winning freelance journalist and editor with seven years’ experience across journalism, editing and editorial production.
Before going freelance, I spent seven years at The Pharmaceutical Journal, where I progressed from subediting to reporting and investigations. Most recently, as Investigations Editor, I researched and wrote in-depth features and investigations, interviewed experts, analysed data and worked with contributors to tell complex and sometimes sensitive stories clearly and accurately.
My background in editing is just as important to how I work. I’ve edited everything from news and long-form features to opinion and research, working closely with writers to strengthen structure, clarity and flow while retaining their individual voice. I also have experience commissioning writers, managing editorial projects and taking content from initial idea through to publication.
My journalism to date has given me particular expertise in healthcare, medicines and NHS policy, but I’m interested in writing more widely. I’m particularly drawn to stories about nature and wildlife, sustainability, society, travel, education and culture, and I’m always interested in subjects that offer the opportunity to ask questions and make complicated ideas accessible.
